The 4 Waves of AI
We have all heard of AI- in the news, in business articles, or on product descriptions. Whatever it is AI is now here to stay and here’s how it will gradually assimilate and transform our experiences.
1. Internet AI
Have you ever wondered how Spotify could make you better music recommendations than your significant other? Or how your Instagram feed is able to enlist a page filled with your interests? These are every day examples of how you encounter first wave of AI. At this stage relies on data access. The more data the more accurate AI can use those labelled data to feed into algorithms and generate outputs to your interest.
2. Business AI
Business AI takes advantage of past data and uses them to create valuable future insights for example by seeking patterns and correlations in those data. For instance past x-rays could be accumulated so that AI could identify pneumonia from a new x-ray.
3. Perception AI
The third wave of AI is about spreading the power of AI out to our physical world with sensors that turn features of the physical world into data. Like how your phone uses facial recognition to verify your identity, this is the first step into how a blended reality would look like.
4.Autonomous AI
Once AI has been fine-tuned to create awareness of the physical world, they could also be programmed to navigate around it like us do. Self-driving cars like Tesla and Google are an example of leaping towards autonomous AI.
AI development can be categorised into these four waves. For now, some concepts like autonomous AI are relatively not yet tangible and are quite a long way to go. Ultimately, knowing these concepts could give us a glimpse of what the future could look like.
